SO MANY Benefits of Pregnancy Workouts!
Now that I am pregnant, I often get questions such as "are you still going to workout now that you are pregnant?" or "you're not still working out are you!?" or "aren't you going to hurt the baby!?" There is a common misconception about working out while pregnant that it can do more harm that good. This is a myth. So let me tell you about all the BENEFITS of exercising while housing and growing a little human!
May lower risk of gestational diabetes
May lower the risk of pregnancy hypertension
Women who do not exercise within the recommended frequency increase the risk of having a low-birth-weight baby
Lower the incidence of low back pain
Prevent excessive decreases in cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness
Avoid excessive weight gain
Easier to return to pre-pregnancy weight
Always speak to your doctor and obtain clearance prior to beginning any exercise program, especially while pregnant. There are certain conditions where exercising is not recommended, such as certain heart diseases, persistent bleeding in the second and third trimesters, and placenta previa after 26 weeks pregnant to name a few.
While exercising, there are some warning signs to terminate exercise during pregnancy that should always be paid attention:
Headache
Dizziness
Chest pain
Vaginal bleeding
Muscle weakness
Calf pain or swelling
Preterm labor
Decreased fetal movement
Amniotic fluid leakage
Because there are so many benefits to working out while pregnant, it is highly recommended (with doc's permission of course) that you find a personal trainer to work with throughout pregnancy and postpartum. There are many modifications to the exercises themselves and the workouts that need to be made. It is most important to keep mom and baby healthy and a certified personal trainer has been trained specifically for such purposes. Check out my page trainwithfitpositively.com/shop for working together on some pregnancy and/or postpartum workouts, or message me if you have any questions or you'd like more details!
